Current Residents

Scintilla

Scintilla is developing a low cost air quality sensor network to calculate real time air quality scores for any location on Earth based on the EPA’s Air Quality Index algorithm. Their project received the 2016 Global Best Use Of Data Award from the NASA SpaceApps Challenge.

NanoEgg

A hand crafted, wood enclosed, music synthesizer developed using a Teensy 3.1. It will feature manual control of all audio tone characteristics using direct physical input rather than menus, while optimizing for a small form factor.

Perceptoscope

Perceptoscope is a scalable public arts initiative devoted to engaging people with places through the deployment of mixed reality binocular viewers. Similar in form factor to the coin-operated binoculars, Perceptoscopes add objects and information to a view of a space in stereoscopic 3D.


Call to Adventure

Creating a brand new and unique product line of large scale action figures that would include diverse themes such as Luchadore Wrestlers, Citizen Scientists, Kaiju, and Physically Handicapped Martial Artists.

Building the Tools

In order to test and calibrate all the fabrication equipment at the DesignLab, we've undertaken a project to build as much of the supporting equipment as is feasible. We are custom designing and making everything from filament spool holders to workbenches to monitor arms.

Large Format Games...

We wanted to have an enjoyable way of showcasing some of the capabilities of the DesignLab at the Open House on the 23rd. So we're creating a 36" Tic-Tac-Toe with backlit laminated copper X's and O's, 5 foot x 6 foot Connect 4 out of milled plywood and HDPE, and Jenga that can be stacked 5 feet tall.
